This policy is aligned with guidance from bioRxiv, arXiv, and the ASAPbio preprint FAQ, and reflects the NISO RP-44 Recommended Practice for Preprint Metadata.
We welcome submissions of manuscripts that have been posted as preprints on recognised preprint servers, including:
Authors must disclose the preprint DOI in the cover letter at submission. The preprint deposit does not prevent publication.
Authors may update their preprint with revised versions during the review process but should not publicly share confidential reviewer feedback.
Upon acceptance, authors should update the preprint record to link to the published version of record using the journal article DOI.
Preprints cited in manuscripts must be clearly marked as preprints (not peer-reviewed). Authors are responsible for checking whether cited preprints have been subsequently published or retracted.
